Bolla’s Chianti 2007 ~ $6.99 ~ Rating: 80

Bolla’s Chianti 2007 does not bring to the dinner table much, to be quite honest. I was in the mood for a Chianti, haven’t had much experience tasting Chianti’s, so figured I pick a cheap one to start off. I opened it up, let it breath for a good 1-2 hours, and poured. The aroma wasn’t very exciting. I smelled some raspberry and a distinct alcohol smell, like when you open up a plastic bottle of rubbing alcohol. I figured it might be my lack of experience with wine, and shrugged it off. The taste is of raspberry KoolAid and pepper. Yum. Now, that being said, that doesn’t mean this wine is undrinkable. It may be good with some pizza or pasta. But if you’re looking for a great wine to compliment a dinner this is not your wine. Sorry, Bolla, very disappointing.

Aside from this disaster, Bolla makes some very good wine otherwise. Check out their website: They serve primarily the United States with a wide variety of wines ranging from Riesling to Amarone. And by the way, the 2003 and 2004 Bolla Chianti’s had great reviews, so perhaps 2007 was just a bad year for the winemaker.
